WI AHEC State Program Office Welcomes Katie Freeman

Welcome, Katie Freeman!

The Wisconsin AHEC State Program Office extends a hearty welcome to Katie Freeman, who will be acting as the new AHEC Academic Planner!

Katie brings a variety of experience in program and project management, teaching, advising, as well as community engagement and outreach. She has served as the Program Manager for the Undergraduate Certificate in Global Health and Global Health Advisor & Engagement Coordinator at UW Madison for the past 4 years. Her work has included directing communications for environmental organizations, managing hospitality certification programs, and coordinating international development projects in the areas of education, health, conservation, and community enterprise in Africa, Asia, and South America.

Katie earned an MPA in Nonprofit Management & Sustainable Development from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and was attracted to UW-Madison’s Global Health Programs for its integrated approach to global health and its efforts to tackle the root causes of health crises and inequities. She is no stranger to AHEC as she currently teaches the Virtual Global Health Experience course that Global Health students take when they participate in our Wisconsin Express and CHIP for their field experience requirement.

Katie has officially started her new role on July 19, 2021. We are very grateful for the wealth of experience and insight she is bringing into this next phase of her service to the world of healthcare!
