Keshena Site – Native American Focus

Site Coordinator: Gail Kell
11 students

Keshena: This site offers an immersion into the culture of the Menominee Indian Tribe. Students will learn about the Native American culture through various activities, beginning with a Pow Wow honoring Veterans on Sunday. This experience provides a historical perspective of termination & restoration, including learning about the tribe’s unique status of federal jurisdiction and sovereignity on their own land. Visits around the reservation will include the tribal health clinic and social services, Maehnowesekiyah Treatment Center, other community organizations, and outdoor places of importance on the reservation. The group will learn about health disparities affecting the community and explore how residents have engaged their community to create change for their people.
