Site Coordinators: Gail Kell
Students at the Minocqua site will focus on priority health care issues facing rural and indigenous communities in the Northern Highland region of Wisconsin. The week starts out with students joining the Shawano site to attend the Menominee Nation Veteran’s Pow Wow in Keshena on Sunday. During the course of the week, the concepts of tribal historical trauma and trauma informed care will be explored. Students go on to examine health concerns such as chronic illness, obesity, substance use disorder, and domestic/sexual violence. There will be opportunities to interact with professionals who experience the challenge as well as the satisfaction of serving these populations.
